Advantages of looking at an establishment's operation from an independent viewpoint are illustrated. Examples are taken from a pharmaceuticals factory, a frozen food manufacturer, a large printing works, and a small computer imaging plant. This review refers to the building structure and possible improvement to this, only where this interacts with the process. The relative merits of investing in different sectors of energy conservation are considered.
