Abstract

In this chapter, I look at general trends that characterize what translators do when they translate from English into Portuguese, and I discuss some recent corpus-informed findings regarding what makes Portuguese translations read differently from texts originally written in Portuguese. With this, my aim is to describe a number of distinguishing features of translated Portuguese in terms of lexis, syntax and discourse.
