Commission: Four Seasons Hotels Ltd., Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai Pudong, China (October 2012). Permanent audiovisual installation, 46 minutes (video) / 180 minute soundscape composition, 4m x 1.5m composite video wall (3x2 60” plasma screens). Part of the hotels 41st floor spa complex. Specifically designed for the new hotel’s spa area, this installation is designed to enhance the intended function of the spa area, thereby contributing to the quality of the guest experience at the hotel. Providing an affective aesthetic presence, the installation supports the hotel’s distinctiveness and targeted service experience. In creates emotional and imaginative congruence with the functions of the spa area, aiming at supporting and strengthening its restorative purpose and contributing to its relaxing, therapeutic intention. The work symbolically reflects and translates the meaning of the space in its significance as a delineated space-time potential for nurturing mind and body, embodying the need for and anticipation of personal transformation.
