Abstract
The need for staff training and support within the residential sector is now recognised but there are many limitations on implementation. Surveys have revealed high proportions of residents with communication disorders and care staff are likely to be expected to cope with a range of complex communication problems (Bryan and Drew 1989). This presentation will discuss a number of recent initiatives that address staff training and support in this care sector.
